By proclamation, President Bush has declared February “American Heart Month” to increase awareness of the fact that heart disease is the leading cause of death for both women and men in the United States, and it is a major cause of disabilities.

(Heart disease is the 3rd leading cause of death among women aged 25-44, and the 2nd leading cause of death among women aged 45-64, so don’t think it is just a problem for men!)

There are some scientific reports (Curr Atheroscler Rep. 2006 8:76-84) that show that taking Omega-3 fatty acids along with cholesterol-lowering medications (statins) reduces LDL (i.e. “bad” cholesterol) better than using the medications alone. Interestingly, HDL (i.e. “good” cholesterol) increases as well!

4. Get moving! 多運動
The American College of Sports Medicine suggests that all healthy adults aged 18-65 should get at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise 5 days a week.
